179 Restorative Justice School Coordinator
Position Title:           Restorative Justice School Coordinator

Salary Range:            Per teacher contract

Contract Length:    Contractual Year-10 1/2 months

Reports to:                 Building Principal


Position Summary: The Restorative Justice in Education/ Service-Learning Coordinator is responsible for supporting the coordination and organization of staff and family engagement programming to support restorative practice whole community learning and implementation.

Requirements:

  • Applicants for the position of restorative justice school coordinator must possess the following:
    Bachelor’s degree and experience working with children and families in a field related to education, sociology, or psychology.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a team of professionals, problem-solve issues, organize events, and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills in working with multiple cultures and individuals in a variety of media and settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer technology to maintain records, complete equipment inventory, create communication tools, and report student progress.
  • Experience implementing/leading PBIS and whole building professional development. Experience coaching educators through a racial equity lens,
  • Experience developing curriculum
  • Experience working with students 5-8th grade with specialized support potentially inclusive of ELL, SPED and racially diverse settings.
  • Completion of Foundational and Advanced Trainings in Circle, Restorative Practices

 Roles and Responsibilities:

Create a restorative practice implementation team of school administration, and community partners to support effective implementation of RJE.

  • Establish implementation goals and timeline.
  • Support professional learning community and team meetings through restorative processes
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate all in-building restorative practice professional development
  • Support classroom teachers with restorative circles, offer opportunities for co-facilitation, modeling, observation, and ongoing support as they develop their own classroom community circle practice
  • Facilitate (and support the facilitation of) restorative circles/conferencing and mediation for healing process when conflict/harm occurs between students, staff, staff and students, families and staff, etc.
  • Coordinate service-learning projects for all students

Create educational opportunities for students through outreach to community and business resources

  • Provide opportunities for, and training of, students as circle keepers
  • Assign responsibility and maintain documentation for grants and projects
  • Train teachers in service-learning projects and restorative practices and provide necessary resources
  • Work directly with teachers to implement restorative practices and service learning instruction
  • Participate on school-wide improvement/leadership team to provide expertise on all matters related to service-learning instruction and restorative practices
  • Maintain weekly communication with the building principal, by submitting schedules, plans, and any other information as requested;
  • Maintain frequent and timely communication with staff members and outside agencies
  • Maintain and generate a list of materials to be housed in the school’s Parent Resource Room/Area
  • Maintain a database for student / parent attendance to events

Additional School Community and School Climate Roles

  • Work with school leadership team to ensure restorative practice data collection and school goals are reflected in the school implementation plan
  • Coordinate and organize family engagement programming to support restorative practice whole community learning and implementation
  • Solicit and coordinate parent and community volunteers
  • Attend relevant professional development in restorative practices in advanced circle processes: Family Group Conferencing, repairing harm circles, welcome back and re-entry circles
  • Contribute to the school and parent newsletters with restorative justice in education information and opportunities
  • Attend parent organization(s) (i.e. PTO) to assist with student /parent events and provide staff representation
