Contract hourly rate according to current teacher’s contract agreement

CONTRACT LENGTH:                          

Professional Learning Sessions  (via google/zoom or online modules )     Strongly Recommended (hourly stipends provided - dates TBD)

Mandatory Training Session (onsite) June 11, 2021, 8:00am - 12:00pm

(hourly stipend provided)

June 14th through July 16, 2021

Monday - Friday (5 hour work day - 8:00am - 1:00pm) 24 days

Monday, July 5th no school

POSITION SUMMARY:                         

Provide quality instruction based on the individual needs of every migrant child using Migrant Summer

School STEAM curriculum, Math and English Language Arts/Reading curriculum.


  • Be certified in Mathematics - Preference given to EL classroom teachers and teachers with an EL endorsement
  • Implement STEAM curriculum
  • Provide oral and written assessments to measure student mastery of English Language Arts and Math (pre-test and post-test required)
  • Provide Migrant Summer School Administrator with student records, including daily attendance; grades, tests, etc.
  • Attend training sessions as listed above


  • Should have the ability to understand and accept the philosophy of the Bilingual Services Department in reference to the education of Migrant students and/or English Learners
  • Should have experience in incorporating new technologies into instruction
  • Must have the ability to facilitate a student-centered, project-based curriculum (must provide evidence)
  • Have recent EXCELLENT classroom management skills and proven ability to work with middle school students.
  • Must have knowledge of research-based instructional strategies, methodology, and materials for EL students
  • Candidate must have a valid Indiana Teacher’s License and highly-qualified status for grade level and/or content area (7 - 8 grades)
  • Evidence of ongoing training in best-practice instruction of Mathematics
  • Knowledge of second-language acquisition theory/practice and migratory culture
  • Recent utilization of WIDA standards
  • May not currently be recommended for a Performance Improvement Plan


In addition to the duties and responsibilities of a classroom teacher, the teacher in this position should have the knowledge and skills to do the following:  

  • Provide STEAM based instruction for migrant students
  • Provide instruction with integration of technology
  • Work in collaborative teams to provide practical support in reading, writing, listening, and speaking strategies for migrant students
  • Work collaboratively with MRSC and Bilingual Services Department staff
  • Supervise and provide direction for a classroom Instructional Resource Specialist in support of instruction
  • Provide differentiated instruction based on Indiana WIDA Standards and students’ academic needs
  • Attendance is required for in-service training sessions

SPECIAL NOTATION: The position requires that staff must be present throughout the duration of the entire Summer Migrant Program. Vacations must be taken prior to the start date of June 14th, 2021 and after July 16th, 2021. The position also requires flexible scheduling of work responsibilities.
